Hailed by The WholeNote Magazine as a pianist with a “natural feeling for swing and groove” and “scintillating technique,” JUNO-Nominated pianist Anthony D’Alessandro has been steadily making his mark on the national and international jazz worlds. Following the release of his JUNO-nominated sophomore album City Lights (2026 JUNO Awards – Jazz Album of the Year Solo), D’Alessandro has maintained a busy touring schedule both nationally and internationally across Canada, the United States, South America and Europe.
D’Alessandro is now embarking on his third full length release with Anthony D’Alessandro Plays George Gershwin, a tribute to the legendary American composer containing seven of Gershwin’s well known compositions. Anthony D’Alessandro Plays George Gershwin is D’Alessandro’s first live album, recorded in front of a live audience at the iconic Yardbird Suite jazz club in Edmonton, Alberta. The record features D’Alessandro’s longtime collaborators, bassist Jonathan Chapman and JUNO-winning drummer Ernesto Cervini, as well as appearances from New York City based jazz stars: Benny Benack III on vocals, Summer Camargo on trumpet, and Jacob Chung on tenor saxophone.
The album takes the mold of a musical suite, taking the listener through may eras of Gershwin’s works. The album opens with a brief nod to Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue before flowing into a blazing version of The Man I Love. It transitions into a slow, bluesy rendition of It Ain’t Necessarily So from Gershwin’s famous opera Porgy and Bess. That is followed by a delicate version of I’ve Got a Crush on You before transitioning to D’Alessandro’s arrangement of one of Gershwin’s most influential works: I Got Rhythm. Benny Benack III masterfully croons the classic Someone to Watch Over Me, before the album concludes with D’Alessandro’s original The Prince and the Jeweller.
